Not wanting to waste time, bandwidth and money downloading it again I did a little search and found out about ‘wget‘. It contains a command to resume incomplete downloads. So I only had to open the terminal in the folder where the file is contained and enter the following “wget -c http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntustudio/releases/9.10/release/ubuntustudio-9.10-alternate-i386.iso“

The ‘ -c ‘ is the command used to continue a download and as long as you open the terminal from the folder containing the file, wget will continue the download from where it originally finished.

Half-way between sleep and consciousness I heard a knock on my window, then a minute later a knock on my door. It was my neighbour letting me know that my car had been broken into!  Of course I couldn’t fully believe until I saw the hazard lights flashing, the locks ‘up’, and wires hanging out of the space where my mp3 stereo used to rest… not cool… and the worst thing about it all? Not just knowing that the same person could break into my car whenever they wanted, not just the fact that I can never leave ANYTHING in my car again when I am not in it… but knowing that the ******* who did it lives in the same block of apartments as me! and he is a junkie to boot! and living on the ground floor, imagine how I feel about leaving the apartment unattended at any time of the day… I have been thrown into this mental prison in which I am the gatekeeper…

You never know what life has around the corner for you… and the junkie? well there’s not much I, the cops or anyone else can do about it… but that’s the law of the world in which we live today… It seems to protect the criminal more than the victim these days… I’m trying not to let it drag me under, but sometimes it’s just not easy… I’m just trying to wait it out n stay afloat until this bad wave passes and I can resume my normal day-to-day life again…

After a few hours of gameplay and up $7 (on the 1c/2c tables), I decided to have a go at the higher stakes… Bad idea!! I ended up losing a few dollars, went on a serious tilt, reloaded my pocket and blew it all on a stupid all-in…

Luckily I didn’t blow my entire account so I can still go back to the smaller stakes and build it up again. I decided the best thing to do would be to take a break for a couple of days and approach the game with a fresh head.

It is so easy for the ego to kick in and take command, and when that happens, it’s best to shut all systems down… for two reasons…

1. You can get too cocky and think you’re invincible (until someone takes all your chips that is!)

2. You tilt…

I think I went from a case of 1 to 2 and boy does that knock da sh*t outta ya… ooooweeeee!

Back when all was carefree and happy-go-lucky…

Seems so far away now…

When I am playing online poker (texas hold’em), I feel like I am learning something new every time I play. However, sometimes I wish I would just listen to that little voice inside my head that says “your after doubling/ tripling/ quadrupling your chips… get out while you’re ahead!”

Even though it’s clear in my head that ‘now’ is the best time to leave the table, my body just seems to play on… my finger keeps clicking the check/fold/bet buttons and my eyes keep watching the next set of cards unfold to the centre of the table and eventually I “think” I have another winning hand and significantly shorten the size of my chip stack :-/

Little by little I am gaining more control over my actions, but I must be constantly aware and extremely self-disciplined. I know greed has a lot to play here too. I must say that generally I am not a greedy or competitive person, but once i get on that table, I want it all!

Occasionally a connection is made at the table and on these occasions I seem to become less competitive and just enjoy the game, which turns out to be some of my luckiest times at the poker table! Other times I have ‘the nuts’ but it comes down to a heads up between myself and a female, and knowing I could clean her out, I only put in for a small amount…

I know I am only human, and being so, I have weaknesses and vulnerabilities. The question is, do I substitute the positive human qualities for a more robotic approach in order to further gain my bankroll?…

This is something I feel can be balanced easily enough, but, one must always remember, at the end of the day, nobody at the table is there to make friends, and everybody is there to make money.
